After several delightful days at Florida Caverns we head south toward Sarasota. To break up the trip a bit we stopped at another familiar site, Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park just outside Gainesville. This park has an interesting geological and historical story to tell.

It was a beautiful drive from Camden, Alabama to Florida Caverns State Park in Marianna, Florida. Does this picture look familiar?
Florida Caverns is one of many favorite state parks we’ve visited. Both the park and the town of Marianna have a rich history. And, yes…there are caverns in Florida…be sure to take the tour. The park boasts big, full-service hookups including sewer. Lots of enjoyable hikes and daytrips in the surrounding area!
Lots of pictures and videos to see below.
We had a leisurely drive from Lake Clairborne SP in Lousiana to Miller’s Ferry Corps of Engineers park near Camden, Alabama another find from Karen. We headed south along Lousiana 146 and east on Interstate 20 east to Merdian and then on US 80.
We arrived to find a site fronting the Alabama River. This is a big park with some of the prettiest sites off the river. This was an overnight stop on our way to Florida Caverns and we would explore this area in more detail on a next trip to the area.
Here are some more pictures of Miller’s Ferry.
After picking up Ole Red in Nacogdoches we paid a visit to the previous owner near Galveston, TX who had agreed to re-install the solar panels and charge controller that he’d initially decided not to sell with the coach. We had wonderful time getting to know the previous owner and his spouse. Learned a ton more about the coach.
We’d initially thought we’d return to Florida via Interstate 10 to Interstate 75. By the time we left Texas a weather system appeared to line our exact interstate route. We decided to head north in to Louisiana before turning east and eventually arrive at Florida Caverns State Park near Marianna, FL….our next stop.
Karen discovered Lake Clairborne SP on State Highway 146 near Homer, LA. We arrived late in the afternoon and left the next day convinced we would have enjoyed more time here.
